The film tells the story of the struggling Kim family. Kim Ki-taek's two children, Ki-woo and Ki-jung, both strive to get a job and rise in status.
Ki-woo is hired as a tutor for Park Da-hye, the daughter of a wealthy CEO named Park Dong-ik.

The driver is also fired for being framed, and Ki-taek is hired as a driver for the Parks. The housekeeper, Moon-gwang, was allergic to peaches and used false information that she had tuberculosis to succeed in firing Moon-gwang and hired his wife, Chung-sook, as a housekeeper. As a result, the entire Kim family will work for the Park family.
After celebrating the birthday of their son Da Song, the Park family goes camping. Time passed, heavy rain fell, and suddenly Moon Gwang, an ex-ousekeeper, came to visit, because there was a hidden underground bomb shelter in Park's house, and her husband, Oh Se-geun, was there. Due to a mistake by Ki-taek's family, Moon-gwang discovers that they are all family members, and they are threatened and a scuffle ensues.
After overpowering the Moon Gwang couple, the Ki-taek family enjoys victory, but when the Park family announces that they are suddenly returning due to heavy rain, Ki-taek-ne, who secretly escapes from the Park family and returns to his real home, takes refuge in an evacuation center due to the flood.
Ki-taek comforts his family, but things get worse. Later, the story becomes even darker when the Park's family's birthday party for Da Song leads to a murder scene and ends in chaos and tragedy. Eventually, Ki-taek hides his life, and Ki-woo and Chung-sook face legal punishment for their fraudulent activities. The film ends with Ki-woo and Chung-sook still living in their old home, waiting for their father to come out of the basement.
